6 years agoI recently purchased an M1 Carbine that has two different numbers stamped on the receiver.
It is an IBM receiver with IBM CORP and serial number 3835XXX behind the rear sight. In front of the rear sight is the number 5835XXX where the XXX are the same numbers.
The receiver is an Auto Ordanance sub-contractor receiver with AO stamped on the rear slope.
The numbers are stamped in different fonts with the rear being a narrow font with angle shaped 3s while the front has a rounded 3.
If it makes any difference barrel is marked IBM CORP 10-43 with flaming bomb stamp. The stock is a rockola low wood I cut stock marked RMC.
And it is an Underwood rebuild with type 3 barrel band, flip safety, and milled adjustable sight.
I can find no import marks anywhere on the rifle.
I was not able to find any discussion of this after extensive web searches. Any help that can be provided in helping me understand what this means or indicates would be appreciated.
